Come Study Watercolor With me in Prospect Park by Patrick King

Since July of 2024 I have been conducting a series of weekend watercolor workshops in Prospect Park, Brooklyn. It’s been a pleasure to teach in the open air and meet so many people anxious to learn more about watercolor. Once the weather gets too cold I will be moving the classes indoors at a location to be determined. More information on the workshops can be found below.

Here’s a watercolor painted awhile back in the park, not far from where I live.

All levels are welcome to join my watercolor workshops. Most students are beginners and I'm fond of saying that my students walk out better painters than they walk in, and have some fun along the way. Each class will start with an overview of basic watercolor techniques. I will bring examples of my work to discuss how I apply those principles. I will then help you plan your composition and initial drawing before we move on to painting. I will also begin a watercolor upon which I will work in-between making the rounds to discuss what you’re working on. You can see more of my watercolors here: https://www.patrickking.org/watercolors

Here are the details.
Saturdays and Sundays from 12-4 PM. We will make up any classes cancelled due to inclement weather by joining the following week’s class. No refunds.

Cost: $75 per session. Take 4 for $250
Bring a friend special: Sign up with a friend and you or they get $20 off.

In the course of these I will have an optional evening gathering or three (space is tight) at my studio in Prospect Heights on dates to be determined, so that you might see more of my work in person.

Workshops are limited to a maximum of 6 people so that I can spend as much time as possible with each student. I will send more details and a materials list to those who sign up. To reserve your space, please send the amount above to either:

Venmo: @Patrick-King-7 (last 4 digits are 6477)

In either case please indicate that the payment is personal, not for goods or services.

Please let me know if you have any questions via the site’s contact page. And I’d greatly appreciate you sharing this either via social media or with anyone you feel may be interested.  I created a group https://www.facebook.com/groups/507891535260474 that I invite you to join to keep abreast of classes along with photos from our sessions, watercolor tips and more.

A New Decade/A New Website by Patrick King

In September of 2023 I celebrated my 10th year in New York. Moving here had been a childhood dream, but I didn’t manage to fulfill it until late middle-age. It’s been an adventure to say the least, of which I plan to write more in this blog. The anniversary also coincided with the building of my last website which had long outlived its usefulness. This new version is mobile friendly and much easier to navigate. And it has a blog that you’re reading right now. I look forward to populating it with writing about art and other matters that I’ve done over the years as well as glimpses into what I’m working on at the moment.

A note about viewing art online The ability to share one’s work around the world in an instant might be the greatest advancement for artists since the collapsable tube. Yet nothing can substitute seeing the work in person. Your impression of it depends on the size of your screen, its color balance and several other factors that will render the work differently for each person. Add to that the fact that viewing art via light waves hitting, then reflecting off a surface as we were meant to view the world, is a very different experience from the RGB light emitting from our screens.

You are most welcome to come see the work in person at my studio. Please drop me a line at the contact link if you’d care to schedule an appointment.

Thanks for visiting!

Patrick
